Ripple Puts Guardrails Around Treasury Automation

Corporate finance teams can automate more treasury analysis without transferring final decision-making authority to artificial intelligence. Ripple expanded GSmart on Sept. 10, adding policy-governed capabilities across cash forecasting, liquidity management, financial risk, reconciliation, and reporting to its Ripple Treasury platform.

The system separates financial calculation from AI interpretation, limiting the technology’s role in decisions involving corporate funds. Deterministic engines, which produce the same result when given identical inputs, perform the underlying calculations. GSmart interprets company policies, detects patterns, and explains its recommendations before sending proposed actions to authorized personnel.

“Every CFO is under pressure to embrace AI, but they’re equally responsible for ensuring every financial decision is explainable, governed and compliant,” Renaat Ver Eecke, senior vice president of Ripple Treasury, said:

“Rather than asking customers to blindly trust an AI system, GSmart works within each organization’s own treasury policies to surface recommendations transparently, while ensuring humans remain in control of every decision. This isn’t simply AI-native treasury, but rather treasury-native AI.”

AI Agents Must Cite Policies Before Seeking Approval

Each orchestrated agent monitors a defined treasury process, recommends a specific response, and identifies the policy clause supporting that recommendation. The proposal is then escalated to a person for review. Knowledge Studio provides the governance layer, allowing treasury departments to establish the organizational policies and controls applied before an action reaches an approver.

Ripple’s emphasis on governance comes as companies deploy AI agents faster than many can supervise them. Gartner projected in April that an average global Fortune 500 enterprise could use more than 150,000 agents by 2028, up from fewer than 15 in 2025. Only 13% of organizations believed they had appropriate AI agent governance.

Analytics Studio adds Ask GSmart, a conversational interface designed to retrieve information and generate insights from treasury data. The system works alongside tools for forecasting, exposure monitoring, liquidity planning, and reporting, extending technology developed within GTreasury before Ripple announced its $1 billion acquisition in October 2025.

Ripple Connects AI With Traditional and Digital Assets

The expansion advances a broader corporate finance strategy that includes the January launch of Ripple Treasury. Built on GTreasury’s enterprise software, the platform combines conventional cash management with infrastructure for digital assets, including Ripple’s dollar-backed stablecoin RLUSD and the cryptocurrency XRP.

Finance departments gained the ability earlier this year to hold, monitor, receive, and manage XRP and RLUSD through existing workflows. That digital asset integration records native asset amounts, corresponding fiat values, and market prices at the time of each event while consolidating positions held across banks and custodians.

XRP operates as the native asset of the XRP Ledger, while RLUSD supplies a dollar-denominated option for payments and liquidity management. GSmart adds analysis and forecasting across treasury operations rather than giving AI agents independent control over transfers.

Early adoption figures indicate that some eligible customers are already using the platform’s automated monitoring tools. Ripple reported that 60% have enabled Risk Insights to identify exposure anomalies and policy breaches, while 44% use Forecast Insights to compare projected and actual cash flows for emerging liquidity gaps.
