Ondo says its new Intelligent Portfolios passed $20 million in total value locked in under a month.
On Ethereum, its flagship BlackRock-branded token, Ondo High Income Powered by BlackRock (BLKHIon), has 1,561 holders. Three wallets hold 95% of the supply. The other 1,500-plus hold about $22,000 between them.
That doesn’t mean the $20 million is fake. It means “TVL” alone doesn’t tell you how many people are actually investing. If you open one portfolio token that’s traceable on-chain, you’ll see what it holds and follow the minting history behind its balance.
Ondo’s Portfolio Tokens Hit $20 Million in Under a Month
Ondo introduced Intelligent Portfolios on September 24. Each product is a curated investment portfolio packaged as a single on-chain token. The first three were labeled “Powered by BlackRock”:
- BLKHIon: Ondo High Income
- BLKDIGon: Ondo Diversified Growth
- BLKGRWon: Ondo High Growth
On October 1, Ondo expanded the lineup to seven. It added four portfolios of its own design: MAG7Xon (Magnificent 7 stocks plus crypto), BRAINon (AI leaders), and YLD5on and YLD8on, which target 5% and 8% income.
On October 20, Ondo announced that the product line had passed $20 million in TVL in under a month. The portfolios are live on Ethereum and BNB Chain, with Solana listed as “coming soon.” They’re open only to eligible non-US investors, and minting or redeeming requires KYC.
What’s Inside the BlackRock-Branded Tokens
Ondo’s Intelligent Portfolios page publishes a full breakdown for only one portfolio, BLKHIon. All nine of its holdings are iShares ETFs, held as tokenized “on” versions issued through Ondo Global Markets:
- HYDBon (iShares High Yield Systematic Bond): 18%
- IGEBon (iShares Investment Grade Systematic Bond): 18%
- BINCon (iShares Flexible Income Active): 15%
- BRTRon (iShares Total Return Active): 12%
- USHYon (iShares Broad USD High Yield Corporate Bond): 12%
- SECUon (iShares Securitized Income Active): 9%
- QLTAon (iShares Aaa-A Rated Corporate Bond): 6%
- NEARon (iShares Short Duration Bond Active): 5%
- SYSBon (iShares Systematic Bond): 5%
By category, that’s 32% aggregate bonds, 30% high yield, 24% credit and 14% other. In other words, BLKHIon is a BlackRock bond strategy made entirely of BlackRock funds, wrapped twice: first as Ondo stock tokens, then as an Ondo portfolio token.
BlackRock’s Role Is Narrower Than the Branding Suggests
“Powered by BlackRock” is in the product names, but Ondo’s own disclosures describe a limited role. According to the portfolio page:
- BlackRock is not the investment adviser, manager, sponsor or distributor.
- Its role is “limited solely to providing one or more nondiscretionary model portfolio strategies” to Ondo.
- Ondo manages, administers and sponsors the portfolios, and they may differ from BlackRock’s strategies or not be updated to match them.
- The strategies include BlackRock’s own funds, which Ondo flags as a potential conflict of interest because BlackRock earns fees on them.
- The tokens are securities issued by Ondo and give holders no interest in the underlying funds.
This last point matters most. Holding BLKHIon gives you a claim on Ondo, not on BlackRock or the iShares funds. BlackRock designed the allocation. Ondo is responsible for everything else.
Tracing the Ethereum Supply of BLKHIon
BLKHIon was the only portfolio token that’s indexed on an Ethereum explorer, so it’s the one traceable for now. According to Blockscout, the contract had about 792,111 tokens in supply on October 21, priced at $4.92. That’s roughly $3.9 million, or about 19.5% of Ondo’s $20 million headline figure, on this single token and chain.
Here’s who holds that supply:
- Wallet 1: 558,897 tokens, 70.6%, about $2.75 million
- Wallet 2: 129,860 tokens, 16.4%, about $639,000
- Wallet 3: 66,907 tokens, 8.4%, about $329,000
- Gate.io hot wallet: 31,966 tokens, 4.0%
- Everyone else, about 1,557 wallets: roughly 4,480 tokens, 0.6%, about $22,000
The minting history is clearer than the holder list. Wallets 1 and 3 were both funded by the same address, which minted 625,804 tokens in 25 mints and passed every one to those two wallets. That’s about $3.08 million, or 79% of the Ethereum supply, from one minter.
Two details in that history stand out:
- Minting started before launch. The first mints happened on September 17, a week before Ondo’s announcement. About 200,365 tokens, worth roughly $986,000 at today’s price, were minted between September 17 and 21.
- A large share arrived at once. On October 12, the same address minted 358,532 tokens in six transactions over about 23 minutes, roughly $1.76 million, and sent all of it to Wallet 1.
Wallet 2’s position is newer. A separate address minted 129,860 tokens through three mintWithAttestation calls on October 16, October 20 and October 21. The October 20 mint, about $265,000, landed on the same day Ondo announced the $20 million milestone. All of it moved to Wallet 2 at 16:17 UTC today.
